  • Grand Theft Auto V coming in Spring 2013

Grand Theft Auto V (Credit: Rockstar Games)There's been plenty of speculation about when Rockstar Games would roll out the next installment of Grand Theft Auto, but precious few hard facts.

Rockstar finally pulled back the curtain a little on Tuesday, announcing via its company blog that GTA V will launch worldwide in the spring of 2013. Pre-orders for the game, which will be playable on the Xbox 360 and PS3 (but not, apparently, on the Wii U), will begin on November 5.

  • Dad, daughter find exceptionally rare Atari game in storage

Air Raid (Credit: GameGavel)Parents hang on to the oddest treasures, usually because they're not entirely sure what to do with old books, videos, or games.

For Harv Bennet, however, being a packrat is about to pay off big time.

Alongside his daughter Alana, Harv found a copy of the Atari 2600 rarity Air Raid among a box of old Atari games he had kept in storage for years. While most old games aren't worth a lot, Air Raid is the exception. In 2010, a copy sold on eBay for a whopping $31,600.

  • New Medal of Honor shot down by critics

Medal of Honor: Warfighter (Credit: EA)Electronic Arts has been building up this year's Medal of Honor: Warfighter as not only a game that would finally unseat Call of Duty from its king-of-the-hill position, but as one that would strike an emotional chord with players.

Judging by the critical reception the game is getting, however, Call of Duty has nothing to worry about -- and the only emotion players are feeling is a sense of disappointment.

  • Financially strapped Nintendo confirms Wii U will be sold at a loss

(Credit: Nintendo)Nintendo has a lot riding on the Wii U. More than anything, it's hoping the new console will help turn around the company's troubled finances.

But it may not do so for a while.

Nintendo company president Satoru Iwata, in a call discussing the company's financial results, announced Thursday that the company would sell the Wii U at a loss. This marks the first time in Nintendo's history that it has put a new system on sale at a loss. Nintendo has been a rarity in the gaming world, traditionally making money on both hardware and software.

  • Coolest Collector’s Editions 2012

Sometimes, just having a copy of your most-anticipated game isn't enough. Sometimes, you need extras.

  • The 25 most popular passwords of 2012

You can't go anywhere online without a password these days. You certainly can't play many games without one.

Want to access Xbox Live through your PC? You'll need a password. Logging onto the PlayStation Store? Cough it up. Playing any online games? You know what to do.

The problem, though, is that most of us just aren't very password-creative. Hackers delight in posting usernames and passwords online when they raid a database. To prove the point -- and to help us all make better password decisions -- SplashData compiles an annual list of the most common (and therefore, the worst) passwords from those listings.

  • Online gamer loses virtual spaceship – and over $6,000

EVE Online (Credit: CCP Games)EVE Online is a unique (and sometimes scary) corner of the video game world. Having debuted in 2003, the massively-multiplayer space game is older than World of Warcraft and a lot messier, with a cutthroat emphasis on alliances, diplomacy, and war. But what makes it truly unique is the game's economic system.

The in-game currency of ISK (Interstellar Kredits) carries a real-world value. So imagine the scream of panic that must have come from the player who calls himself "stewie Zanjoahir" when his ship carrying valuable blueprints was destroyed by other players recently.

How valuable? The real-world value is being estimated at over $6,000.

  • Ubisoft fast-tracking Assassin’s Creed film

Michael Fassbender (Credit: Getty Images)Desmond Miles is speeding towards the big screen -- and he's taking the express lane.

Ubisoft has announced a partnership with New Regency Partners for an Assassin's Creed film adaptation. The companies hope to have a script, cast, and director in place by next summer, which could put the film in theaters as early as 2014.

Michael Fassbender, best known for his work in "X-Men: First Class" and the sci-fi film "Prometheus," will lead the film, playing whichever incarnation of Desmond's assassin ancestors makes it to the film.

  • 10 of the weirdest games you’ll ever play

A little quirkiness in a video game is often a good thing. After all, the repetition of wiping out hundreds of clone-like enemies or exploring levels that are eerily similar to ones you've just wandered through can wear down even the most dedicated of players.

But sometimes, developers charge happily into the land of absolute insanity, letting their freak flags fly as they stretch their creative muscles to keep us on our toes. In an even more surprising reality, sometimes those gigantic leaps of faith are actually a heck of a lot of fun -- though sometimes, of course, they stink.

From grumpy, sentient fish to communist alien invaders, gaming's past is littered with weird games. Here are 10 that are certainly make the short list.

  • Gamers kick off weekend marathons for Extra Life charity

Gamers have proven their generosity countless times, but it's rare they can help a charity by simply doing what they love most: playing video games.

Starting at 8:00 am on Saturday, October 20, nearly 15,000 people will do just that for Extra Life, a gaming marathon that supports the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

The idea's fairly straightforward, if a little tiring. Gamers fire up their consoles (or pull out their board games) and play for 24 hours, encouraging their friends and family to support them, with all proceeds going toward the CMN Hospital in their area.
