GTA loves L.A.

The first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto V is here, and the rumor mill got it right: we're headed back to Los Angeles -- or GTA's twisted version of it, at least.

My Little Pony, Hasbro's colorful line of equine toys, is back.

Two fan-made online games, My Little Pony Online and Equestria Online, are both set in the fictional world of the "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" television series, currently in its second season on The Hub cable network.

The show, which strives to make the My Little Pony franchise a bit less 'girly' and more approachable to a wider audience, focuses on Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn pony who has adventures with her Pony Town friends -- Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie.

Frodo, Gandalf and Aragorn might have stolen the spotlight on the big screen, but there was a lot going on in "The Lord of the Rings" that didn't involve the Fellowship.

LOTR: War in the North (Warner Bros. Interactive)While the movie tie-ins to the epic fantasy saga may be (temporarily) exhausted, the gaming world isn't anywhere close to being ready to walk away from the franchise. And Warner Bros. Interactive has found a way to keep it alive by digging deep into J.R.R. Tolkien's tomes.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, which hits stores Tuesday, features characters and situations that may not be familiar to people who aren't obsessive readers of the trilogy, but each was included in the novels as well as Tolkien's annotations.

The Fellowship returns.It's a little hard to believe that ten years have passed since a few unassuming hobbits set out to take down Sauron in 2001's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring."  The tale continues this week via the new video game War in the North, which features an original narrative that explains what happened in other areas of Middle-Earth during the great conflict.

But since we won't get to play as Aragorn, Legolas or the rest of the Fellowship in the game, we figured we should at least catch up with the actors who made Peter Jackson's cinematic vision come to life. You shall pass!

The cost of war is high at Electronic Arts, but the rewards are even higher.

Battlefield 3 (EA)Battlefield 3, the company's answer to industry juggernaut Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has burst out of the gate by selling 5 million copies in its first week alone. That's a record for EA and enough to make it the industry's best launch this year -- though it probably won't hold that title for long.

The big numbers for Battlefield 3 soundly beat the launch numbers for Microsoft's Gears of War 3, which sold 3 million copies in its first week on shelves. But the Nov. 8 debut of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to once again set new entertainment industry records.
