The NPD Group reports that total video game retail revenue fell once again in June, down 10% from last year's $1.15 billion to a, uh, 'measly' $1.03 billion. The culprit? Plenty of things, but analysts like Michael Pachter are pointing fingers at the once-mighty Nintendo Wii. Wii software has dipped startling 75% since this same time last year, contributing greatly to the overall monthly software slide of 12% (from $531 million to $469 million).

Netflix on 3DS - NintendoAs backlash rages over Netflix's reworked pricing structure, Nintendo 3DS owners in the U.S. and Canada got a bit of good news today as they'll now be able to stream TV shows and movies directly to their 3D handheld.

Nintendo announced the feature, which is accessible by downloading a free app from the portable system's eShop, in the hopes that it will entice more consumers to get in on the 3DS.

Worst Movie Games Ever

'Tis the season for big, brawny blockbuster films, and that
means only one thing: lots of terrible video game adaptations.  The latest offender? Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows Part 2, but that's hardly the worst we've played. From
incompetent aliens to not-so-superheroes, these ill-advised video games put the
sin in cinema.

E.T., the game that started this mess.It's not that often that you can definitively point to the beginning of a trend. But when it comes to really bad video games based on movies, there's a pretty clear starting point.

It was 1982, and Atari was hoping to capitalize on the monster success of Steven Spielberg's "E.T." It gave the game's developers less than six months to create the title -- and the rush-job showed. Wise players bypassed it and Atari ended up burying thousands -- if not millions -- of unsold copies in a New Mexico landfill while ushering in what would become known as the great video game crash of 1983.

Fans of Britain's most famous wizard won't have failed to notice that this is something of a big week for the young conjurer. Ten years after the release of the first Potter movie, the series finally wraps up this week -- and it's doing so with the blessing of most critics, who've been lavishing it with impressive reviews.

Despite scoring the world's biggest ever entertainment launch last fall, there's still plenty of milk left in Activision cash cow,
Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Yup, this week's biggest release -- by far -- is the third downloadable expansion for Black Ops, Annihilation, which should already be
available on Xbox Live for 1200 Microsoft points ($15). Playstation 3 and PC
gamers? Sorry -- as with the previous two map packs, you're going to be waiting
a little longer before they appear on your platforms.
