Just Dance 2 - Ubisoft Music games are singing the blues.

It's been over five years since Massachusetts-based developer Harmonix revolutionized the genre, thrusting the original Guitar Hero to the top of the charts, winning a stunning collection of awards, and birthing a franchise that'd eventually rack up over two billion dollars in sales.

But now Guitar Hero is just a memory, euthanized by publisher Activision last month following a sharp downturn in revenue and a series of poorly received spin-offs. And competitor Rock Band -- Harmonix's next work, published by Activision rival EA -- isn't in much better shape. Although its most recent effort, Rock Band 3, earned considerable acclaim, it's widely thought to

    • If I've ever accused the gritty Call of Duty series for not having a sense of humor, I hereby take it all back...while waving a lighter in the air and banging my head. What else are you supposed to do when watching two virtual soldiers lip synch to the 1990 power ballad "Wind of Change" by Scorpions?

If that sounds odd, just wait until you watch the awesome new
trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops -- First Strike. The downloadable map pack
released on Thursday for the PS3 (it came to the Xbox 360 a few weeks ago), and
to celebrate, Activision crafted two minutes of Berlin Wall bizarreness that
simply has to be seen to be believed:

      Dark Might

Rightfully considered the best superhero game ever made, 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum was a Dark Knight fan's dream come true. With riveting combat, gorgeous delivery, amazing sound and a memorable plot, how could it be topped?

By ripping the top off completely, apparently.

A huge, open-ended world just one of many awesome things you'll notice in the newly released first gameplay trailer for the heavily-anticipated Batman: Arkham City. Other things you'll notice? Batman flinging himself into the air with ziplines, using his cape to soar over the chaotic streets of a villain-plagued Gotham, spotting trouble with his improved Detective mode, bumming a ride on a helicopter, and laying the

Virtual dating Good news, married folks! You can still play The Dating Game.

The legendary game show debuts Wednesday on all major social media sites -- including Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Sadly, it does not star Bob Eubanks.

Other than that, however, it's a lot like the cheese-tastic TV show. Three players will answer a series of questions to try to win a 'date' with a fourth. (Developer 3G Studios notes the game is meant as just that -- it's not a dating site.) Players play with friends, of course, but whoever is sitting in the bachelor/bachelorette virtual chair won't know who gave which answer until the end of the game.

Like the show, there are three rounds, though they've been slightly tweaked

      Disaster Report 4 - Irem

Following last week's killer earthquake and tsunami in Japan, game publishers have canceled and delayed several PlayStation 3 games with disaster-related themes.

Irem will cease development on its PlayStation 3 game Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 4 (City in a Desperate Situation), the publisher said in a statement on its website Monday. Previous installments in the action-adventure series, which has been released outside Japan under the name Disaster Report, star a protagonist who must escape a city that has been destroyed by an earthquake, roaming through destroyed streets and buildings and rescuing survivors.

The new game was originally slated to be released March 10, although development issues

Rocksmith - Ubisoft When Activision officially unplugged Guitar Hero earlier this year, most of us figured the battle of the video game bands was over.

Turns out it was just waiting for a new player.

On Tuesday, game publisher Ubisoft pulled back the curtain on an upcoming new rhythm game called Rocksmith. But forget the plastic peripherals -- Rocksmith will forgo the fake clutter entirely and let you play with any electric guitar on the market.

That trick is accomplished via a device that converts a standard, quarter-inch guitar cable into a USB connection. Simply plug in any electric guitar -- from the busted up Fender gathering dust in your kid's old bedroom to the mint Les Paul you've been eyeing on eBay

If Michael Bay's interpretation of the Transformers (and the
requisite gaming spin-offs that came with it) wasn't quite your style, another
      option is on the way.

Hasbro has tapped UK developer Jagex to create a
massively-multiplayer online game based on the 80s toy icon. It's scheduled to
      be released in 2012.

Jagex is the company behind the hit Runescape, which has
      been recognized by Guinness
as the world's most popular free massively multiplayer online game. There are
roughly 10 million active accounts per month in the game and over 156 million
registered accounts. All totaled, Jagex has made over 40 online games.

"There is a huge appetite for an online Transformers

Richard Garriott - Getty Images There hasn't been a lot of news from the world of Britannia lately, but design guru Richard Garriott is ready to change that.

The godfather of role-playing games has announced plans to bring his famous alter-ego to the world of social gaming. Lord British's New
Britannia (a working title) is in the early stages of development at Portalarium, his new company.

Details on the titles were light, since a) the project is still nascent and b) the South by Southwest presentation where he made the announcement was primarily an appeal to investors (the company is seeking $3.8 million in financing). However, Garriott did note "the virtual world game is not just an ultra-light MMO shopped on social

      It's all in your head.

Controlling a video game with your mind might seem the stuff of science fiction, but then again, so did the idea of motion controls.

While still a ways from being a mainstream phenomenon, mind-controlled games are already on store shelves -- and more are coming.

Leading the charge is Neurosky. The San Jose, CA-based company is the, well, brains behind Mattel's Mindflex (Buy|Search) children's game -- which lets kids raise and lower a small foam ball solely by focusing their concentration -- as well as the Star Wars Force Trainer (Buy|Search), which basically does the same thing, only with a heavier
      geek vibe.

The company has slowly been branching out into the video game sector, though. At
