      Narnia Island

WoW: Cataclysm - Blizzard Entertainment Warcraft's old world might have come to an end, but the new one is already paying off big time.

Activision-Blizzard has announced that the recent world-changing Cataclysm
expansion sold an astonishing 3.3 million copies in its first day of
availability, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. The previous record-holder? That would be the second
World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, which sold a 'meager' 2.8
million copies over the course of its launch day back in 2008.

The 3.3 million mark includes both retail copies of the game
and digital sales, though Blizzard didn't break it down any further. Over
10,000 retail stores worldwide helped the role-playing

    • With the latest film mired in production limbo, James Bond won't be infiltrating the big screen any time soon.

Instead, this week he's sneaking into your game console. Two of him, to be precise. One, GoldenEye 007, is a Wii remake of a beloved Nintendo 64 classic, while the other, Blood
Stone, is a big-budget original tale which releases on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and pits the renowned star against a shadowy, bioweapons-packing terrorist group.

Click to watch James Bond 007: Blood Stone Video The former may be more familiar to gamers, but fear not: the latter is as legitimate a new entry
in the Bond canon as you're likely to see for some time. After all, Blood Stone

The music industry has the Grammys, Hollywood has the Oscars, and the
video game world has, for better or worse, the Spike TV Video Game Awards. Packing the Los
Angeles Convention Center with celebs, legendary game developers and eager press, this year's award ceremony is over and
done with -- and we've got the complete list of winners (and losers).

The night's undisputed champion was Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption,

celebrate the latter, performing his work "Far Away," well known to fans

    • ‘Call of Duty’ Likely to Rule November Video Game Sales

      CNBC - CNBC

"Black Ops" brought some black ink for the video game industry in November.

Retail software sales posted impressive growth over 2009 numbers, marking the first time the industry has posted back-to-back gains this year.

Software sales climbed 4 percent last month to $2.95 billion, led by Activision’s blockbuster “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales. That’s the best month on record for retail.

Even better for the industry, unlike October’s retail sales numbers, which were something of a mixed bag overall, the increases were across the board in November. Hardware sales were up a surprising 2 percent—while consumers snatched up new motion control

According to a new survey released by market research firm Interpret, one-time fans of portable gaming systems like the DS and PSP are ditching them in favor of smartphones like Apple's iPhone.

The news comes amid heightened rumors that Sony, and its joint mobile phone venture Sony Ericcson, is about to unveil an Android-based smartphone that'll integrate PSP game functionality.

"Gamers appear to be defecting from their handheld gaming devices to phones to
get their gaming kicks," says Interpret's report, which polled 9,000

Yet it's free to download.

So where does the money come from? Kelly Rummelhart of Gridley, Calif., has part of the answer. Her 4-year-old son was using her iPad to play the game and racked up $66.88 in charges on her credit card without knowing what he was doing.

Rummelhart had no idea that it was possible to buy things - buy them with real money - inside the game. In this case, her son bought one bushel and 11 buckets of "Smurfberries," tokens that speed up gameplay.

"Really, my biggest concern was them
