Dead Island trailer is full of brains…and heart

    Neon Rider

Zombies have invaded our televisions (The Walking Dead), game consoles
(Dead Rising 2, Left 4 Dead) and smartphones (Plants vs. Zombies, Zombie
Escape) -- and according to a new video that has the gaming world
abuzz, the rotting beauties are poised to infiltrate our vacations, too.

The official announcement trailer for Dead Island has, appropriately enough, brought the once-dead game back to life. Developed by Techland (best known as the minds behind Old-West shooter Call of Juarez), the ambitious, open-world action romp stars a delightful family who find their sunny island vacay rudely interrupted by hordes of shambling corpses.

That might sound typical, but the trailer is anything but.
Hold on to your seats, because this is one emotional ride.

(Warning: Features zombies being zombies, which means it's violent, intense, and more than a little bloody. Not for the squeamish.)

Clever editing, touching relationships -- this is as, uh, "heartwarming" as a zombie game trailer gets, I reckon. It's so impressive, in fact, that the otherwise under-the-radar game became a top trending Twitter topic on Wednesday. It's slated for release at the tail end of 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, so expect plenty more info in the months ahead.
