Blizzard Entertainment's famous fantasy-based action RPG franchise Diablo has always had its feet planted firmly in PCs.
Diablo III (Blizzard)After a seemingly casual Twitter conversation this week, however, it seems things are about to change.
Twitter user TaNGoIX (a self-professed "N3rd," with "22 years of being awesome") posed a simple question to Diablo III community manager Micah "Bashiok" Whipple: whether he could confirm or deny that Diablo III was indeed headed to consoles.
"Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."
How's that for a casual bombshell?
Last August at BlizzCon 2011, Jay Wilson, Diablo III's Game Director, explained that this time around the Blizzard team isn't interested in simply delivering a port of the game. "Our goal is to make a game that feels like it's natively made for a console," he told Game Informer.
With Whipple's announcement, it looks like they aim to follow through on that goal.
Blizzard is still playing it coy, however, issuing a formal press statement in an attempt to spin Bashiok's comment.
"Bashiok's response on Twitter was intended as a confirmation that we're actively exploring the possibility of developing a console version of Diablo III, as we've mentioned in the past. This is not a confirmation that Diablo III is coming to any console platform."
Sure. Still, a few Diablo III mysteries remain. To date, the Blizzard team has been close-lipped about the game's official launch date, despite loads of rumors.
Maybe we should ask @TaNGoIX to dig up the answer.
