Hear that buzzing? It's not a horsefly, pardner -- it's the upcoming animated flick, Rango.
Reuniting "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinksi with leading man Johnny Depp, Rango stars the swashbuckler as a chameleon tasked with defending an Old West town from ne'er-do-wells. Paramount hopes the film can parlay the duo's past success into the first animated hit of 2011.
That hope extends to the video game, and while the quality of movie tie-ins can often be a bit dubious, Rango: The Videogame is getting some 'surprising' love from game critics. Games Radar calls it "fresh and consistently surprising," while game blog Destructoid thinks it's "a solid title with surprising variety."
Surprised? Just wait 'til you see the game's official trailer, exclusively on Yahoo! Games:
Scored by the Hans Zimmer team (The Dark Knight, Inception) and featuring assets built by the wizards at legendary visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic, the game looks to take players past the events in the movie while serving up a wide variety of game styles. The film releases March 4, but the game hits the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS a few days earlier on March 1.
