The classic gaming service has introduced the Shutdown Promo, a collection of seven titles that it manages to tie to the current squabbling in D.C. And, in a classy move, GOG.com is giving it away for free to all furloughed federal employees.
"It occurs to us that one of the problems may be that there are people on Capitol Hill who don't know what a functioning government looks like, so we thought we'd help and point a few out," the site says.
The big game in the bunch is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, which lets you run any sort of government you want. And, in true Washington fashion, change course at any given moment.
There's also The Guild: Gold Edition, which GOG notes is "a great place to see where the term 'Machiavellian Politics' originated from." Capitalism Plus and Capitalism 2 handle the economics of the situation, while Tropico: Reloaded, game that lets players dictate the ins and outs of a banana republic, is included "as a reminder of what can happen when governments go awry."
Obamacare? Yep, that's covered, too, with Theme Hospital filling the prescription.
And, just because, GOG also tossed in the cult-hit first-person shooter Redneck Rampage. Make your own political joke out of that one.
Non-government employees can pick up the bundle for $25. But if Uncle Sam has put you out of work, all you have to do is send an photo of yourself holding your official furlough letter to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday Oct. 11 at 12:00 ET and GOG will gift the games to you.
