And now Jay-Z is adding 'video game producer' to the list.
Take-Two Interactive has drafted Jay-Z to be an executive producer for the upcoming NBA 2K13. Chief among his duties will be hand-picking the soundtrack for the game, which will include a half-dozen of his own songs, as well three numbers from Kanye West and others from well known names such as Puff Daddy and the Family, U2, and Coldplay.
Jay-Z's equally famous wife Beyonce will not appear on the soundtrack, however.
"This has been a unique opportunity to collaborate with 2K Sports and be a part of one of the best sports video games in history," the artist said in a statement. "I'm ready to usher in the new era of the franchise."
Beyond the soundtrack, 2K Sports is a little vague about what Jay-Z will be doing. The company only says his "artistic vision and style will permeate the experience."
NBA2K13 is hardly Jay Z's first foray in the gaming industry, though he has never had such a prominent role. Earlier this year, he lent his name to the Facebook game Empire, which let players climb the music industry ladder in his shoes.
And his association with the NBA2K franchise is one that makes sense. He's a part owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and owns a stake in the 40/40 sports club chain, which is regularly frequented by celebrities.
Jay-Z, of course, isn't the first multimedia superstar to expand into games over the past year. In May, Oprah Winfrey launched her own Facebook game (which seems to have quietly disappeared in the interim). And when it comes to game-obsessed celebrities, nobody can lay a finger on Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion, as he prefers to be called these days).
