Mark Hamill upset with treatment at the VGAs

Mark Hamill (Getty Images)While there's no pleasing all of the people all of the time, by most accounts this year's Video Game Awards on Spike TV were an improvement over previous installments, with several big new game reveals, developers actually making it on stage to accept their awards, and obvious sponsor pimping (like the "Most Addictive Game Fueled by Mountain Dew" from last year) jettisoned.

But for Mark Hamill, they were still pretty crummy.

The one-time Luke Skywalker and acclaimed voice behind the Joker in the Batman cartoons and this year's Batman: Arkham City was nominated for Best Voice Acting (Male). It may very well have been his farewell performance in the role, and it was one that earned him universal praise.

He didn't win — but that was the least of his problems.

Hamill -- and his Arkham City co-star Tara Strong (who voiced Harley Quinn) -- somehow ended up sitting what seemed to be a country mile from the stage. Worse still, Hamill's award wasn't presented during either the live show or the online-only pre-show. The category was briefly mentioned during a montage, and Hamill's nomination was missing entirely.

"Weird VGAs!," he tweeted. "Don't mind losing but I'd like to know when it happens Did I miss something? Award given off-camera? Tara & I in lousy seats BOO!"

Strong was a bit more blunt in her comments.

"Hey, @SPIKE_TV, if you weren't going 2 announce the nominees, y have us come 2 the show? VO may not matter 2 u, but it sure does to us," she tweeted, adding "I mean, I got my make-up done; I at least wanted a close up of my face when I lost but pretended to be happy for someone else!"

Though Hamill and Strong lost their categories (to Stephen Merchant and Ellen McClain, both from Portal 2), Arkham City itself was a dominant title at the show. The game won four titles overall, including best Xbox 360 game and Best Action/Adventure Game.

As while the VGAs didn't treat Hamill very well, they treated his take on The Joker just fine: it was voted Character of the Year.
