Activision's Skylanders toy/game mash-up has proven to be a massive success, and it's due to get even bigger this year with the release of Skylanders Giants. The game's finally got a firm release date of October 21, but for the millions of die-hard fans, that means more than just a new game to play through -- it means a new batch of awesome action figures to obsessively track down and collect.
A handful of new characters have already been revealed, but we've got the scoop on another one: Swarm.
As the name implies, he's a giant bee. His element? Air, naturally. For those into Skylanders lore, here's the rest of his bio, direct from Activision:
Swarm -- Click to enlargeSwarm was once a prince from a proud race of mysterious insect warriors that had built their entire civilization inside a giant honeycombed pyramid. Growing up as one of the 9,000 members of the royal family, he was never permitted to leave the hive. But unlike his brethren, there was a magical quality to Swarm that caused him to grow much larger than the rest of his kind. No longer able to fit amongst the rest of his colony, the young prince broke the long standing tradition and stepped out into the open world — where his size and strength would be put to good use in the legendary battle between the Giants and the Arkeyans.
Swarm's one of eight Giants due out with the new game. Activision is also releasing eight new regular Skylanders figures, eight 'LightCore' Skylanders that light up when near a Portal of Power, and will re-release 24 original Skylanders in 'Series 2' form (expected to be new poses/sculptures). The new game itself looks to be similar in scope to the original Skylanders, though it aims to add replayability by letting players tackle each area with normal or Giant characters.
