Uncharted 3 (Sony)Back for his third adventure, intrepid explorer Nathan Drake shows no signs of overstaying his welcome. Quite the opposite, if anything.
This week's Uncharted 3 brings all the thrills of a top-tier action movie to the world of video games -- and the critics are dubbing it one of the Playstation 3's best games. In fact, it's so good, we gave it its own write-up. Check it out right here.
But although Uncharted 3 might be the week's big news, there's plenty more out there -- including a downloadable expansion for Gears of War 3, a new Lord of the Rings adventure, and a chance to experience an all-time classic shooter in a revamped high-definition format. Read on for the full details.
Gears of War 3: Horde Command Pack
Loved September's smash Gears of War 3? You and somewhere over three million other people. Still, the included set of maps is probably getting a bit stale these days -- which is why you'll be happy to see the release of this multiplayer-focused pack of downloadable content, which rolls together three new maps, new achievements, two new weapon skins, three new characters, and a partridge in a pear tree. Armed with a Lancer.
The Lord of the Rings: The War in the North
Bet you thought you'd heard the last of this franchise, didn't you? Tolkien-mania is far from over, however, and to prove it this new action-heavy role-playing game also hits streets this week. Though set during the film trilogy, it weaves a new tale about events occurring offscreen. Scoring in the 7s and 8s, it looks like a solid bet for Ringers everywhere.
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded
Hailed as one of the first truly successful console first-person shooters, N64 classic GoldenEye has a special place in the heart of countless gamers. A shined-up, high-def version launches this week on PS3 and Xbox -- and if you have happy memories of the original, we highly recommend you pick up a copy.
Sonic Generations
Once-proud console manufacturer Sega is a shadow of its former self -- but the same's not true of its bold blue mascot, Sonic. The spikey star of countless platformers makes a welcome return to consoles this week, in an adventure that's a collection of classic levels from his 20-year history.
NCIS: The Video Game
Can't get enough of crime drama NCIS? Want to take the helm of your very own Major Case Response Team? Hitting streets today, NCIS: The Video Game includes a quartet of episodes penned by the same writers as the show itself.
