Optionally, players may agree to a variation known as Oklahoma. In Oklahoma, the maximum amount of deadwood a player may have to knock is determined by the rank of the initial faceup card. If that card is a face card or a 10, the knock limit is 10 points, as in standard gin rummy. If the card is lower, the knocker's deadwood may not exceed that lower number; except that if the upcard is an ace, a gin hand is required to knock. There is one other difference from standard gin rummy: If the upcard is a spade, scores for that hand are doubled (though the box is still worth just 20 - see Scoring).
