The dilemma that MahJong players regularly face, and which makes the game so interesting, is whether to go for a harder-to-make, high-scoring hand or an easy-to-make, low-scoring hand. Either strategy may be correct in a given hand, and you must be ready to change your goals as other player's discards and the tiles you draw alter the odds. Being flexible is a key to success.
It's good to make a tentative decision right after you see your initial hand, so you can choose discards that match your strategy. The better your initial hand, the more ambitious a hand you can afford to try for. When your hand has poor chances to score well, though, you may as well aim for a quick MahJong. |
