The game that is closest to my heart... Final Fantasy VII. The deep-seated psychology behind it is not for the faint of heart... And let's not forget the legendary Sephiroth, earning his well-deserved place at the top of nearly every video game villain list. Admit it, you love to hate him...but are entranced by the profound sadness of his story. (:

Hate to sound uber nerdy here but I LOVED ff7. It was my first RPG and serious game (up until then it had been mario bros, sonic and donkey kong). It really gave me a new perspective and the storyline was great. I'm not ashamed to say that a 14 yr old me cried when (don't wanna spoil it) someone died. Sephiroth and is sociopathicness haunted my dreams. It's still to this day my number 1 favorite game ever.

FF7 is my favorite console rpg also. The only way I'd buy a PS3 is if they remade it.

This is also true for me also, until i saw FF7 the only rpg i had played was Zelda. One day i was with my girlfriend and she told me to come into her brothers room to see the game he was playing, it was FF7. When i did he showed me a few of the summons and i was like "oh dam, what game is that!!" Afterwards i made it a must to acquire a playstation by any means necessary. The only other rpg that i came across on playstation that could stand against FF was a game called Chronos Trigger and i cant remember exactly how i found it but i remember enjoying it almost as much as FF7. Unfortunately i dont really hear too much about it, i dont think i got the amount of recognition it deserved.

FFVIII is my absolute favorite with XIII right behind it! Just got XIII-2 the other day as well! I like IX, but...I haven't even finished my first playthrough, yet have completed VIII and XIII numerous times.

The author is too busy wetting himself over 7...

I dont need a picture of 8 to be reminded that its one of the greatest games of the series if not the best. 9 sucked so bad I wouldn't even give that to someone who had only a ps1 and no games.

8 was one of the best lol

I think FF 7, is absolutely great, but it was also the turning point for rpg's to become mainstream, as well as giving gamers one of it's best villian's of all time 'Sephiroth' which gives it it's hype. Everyone has their own opinion, so it's all good. But Squall Leonhart and FF8 was such a very very in depth story surrounding all the characters that surpassed 7, (If they had developed Griever more, than I think people would understand the depth of the story a lot better. I simply loved the draw system, and GFs So 8 goes on my list of 1st place. 2nd would definitely go to 6 (or 3 in America) Terra's journey is awesome, and the story deth for SNES was amazing. 3rd Would go to FF Tactics, it's storyline is absolutely great and had some of the greatest villians in the FF series. So yes FF 7 is great, but not every FF fans favorite. That is FF's legacy... Versatility

Seems to me they should have an entire article solely dedicated to Nobuo Uematsu.

Wow... The Final Fantasy series deserves a better "History" then this. I agree 7 was the best, but 3 (also known #$%$ was the one that pushed the envelopes. Also, the fact they don't even mention 8 and 9, or the failing Final Fantasy 14 mmorpg, just shows the lack of respect for this dynasty.

ff8 is by far better then ff7. the junction system is just great, story great and you had to work getting your chars better magic to junction it to increase stats to max. ff7 sephiroth was really a joke really 1 hit ko is just lame for a boss not special about Materia pretty much just kil kil for exp and lvl up Materia.

No mention of several games in the series, including Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest which was the attempt to "adapt" into the rental market.
