It's been one year since an earth shattering, brain twisting event occurred: Simon "I Don't Want Children" Cowell became a father. And darn if he isn't a sweet pop.
Make no mistake though, the talent scout — who's raising his son with girlfriend Lauren Silverman — parents on his terms. As his mini-me, Eric, celebrates his first birthday on Feb. 14 (yup, little Eric Cowell is a Valentine's Day baby), we look at what those terms are…
Do: Rely on a good nanny. The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent star isn't trying to dupe anyone into thinking he's superdad. "I'm probably in a far better position to be a father now than I would have been 10 years ago. That's the way I'd look at it," Cowell told Hello! magazine in October "And at the end of the day, we have really great nannies that are bloody amazing, so I don't have to worry."
Now that we have to see.
While the 25-year-old certainly didn't invent the gesture and plenty of other celebrities — Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and Katy Perry to name a few — have been photographed doing it, the New York Times christened Swift the queen of hand heart back in 2011 and had a heart to heart with her on the topic.
"The heart-hand symbol means something between 'I love you' and 'thank you,'" she told the newspaper of record. "It's just a sweet, simple message that you can deliver without saying a word."
Swift went on to say that she started making the symbol when she was a sophomore in high school (circa 2005 in Nashville) and, as an aspiring performer, tried it out on stage soon after "to try and get a response from the audience." The crowd started cheering and doing it back, so she kept working it into her shows as she soared to the top of the charts.
It's become a go-to move for Tom Cruise… despite his technique needing some work.
Two weddings are better than one!
Days after Johnny Depp and Amber Heard officially tied the knot in a civil ceremony in L.A., the newlyeds celebrated their union again with a bigger bash at the actor's private island, Little Hall's Pond Cay, in the Bahamas.
The ceremony took place on Sunday in a small cove on a white sand beach. Only a small group of family and friends were in attendance, including Depp's two children, daughter Lily-Rose, 15, and son Jack, 12, and the actor’s Mortdecai co-star Paul Bettany. According to Us Weekly, guests "hung out on the beach, drank, played music, went snorkeling, and enjoyed the private affair."
We can't pinpoint exactly when the fanny pack fell out of fashion — perhaps around the time Joey Buttafuoco paired it with Zubaz pants in the early '90s?! — but some celebrities seem hell-bent on bringing it back.
Kate Hudson, who knows how to get people talking about her style (did you see that rump-exposing red dress?), was photographed with one while passing through Los Angeles International Airport this week. Make no mistake, it was nothing like the fanny packs of yesteryear — think: a leather or nylon puffy pouch with clips and zips to keep it affixed to the waist. Hudson's was a chic black one with two front pockets and a chain connecting them. And she made her fashion statement just days after the packs were spotted all over the Paris Fashion Week runways.
The single-again blonde isn't the only famous face seen rocking the throwback style that for a long time had been reserved for confused looking tourists in NYC's Times Square or, gasp , moms and dads at Disney World. Here are the other A-listers trying to bring it back…
Shakira has welcomed another bebé!
The hip-shaking singer and sometimes The Voice coach gave birth to her second son, Sasha, in Spain on Thursday, Yahoo has confirmed. Baby joins his footballer dad, Gerard Piqué , and adorable big brother Milan, 2.
"We are happy to announce the birth of Sasha Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 29 at 9:54pm, in Barcelona," read an announcement on Shakira's website on Friday morning. "The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means 'defender of mankind' and 'warrior.' The hospital confirmed that both mother and child are in excellent health."
Earlier this month, Shakira, 37, and Piqué , 27, shared sweet family photos — with Milan — as part of their virtual World Baby Shower benefiting UNICEF. The mom-to-be dressed up her growing belly in a long, light colored flowing gown. Their mini-me wore a gray shirt and jeans like his dad and brought even more adorableness to the family photo.
Jennifer Lawrence's Reality TV Obsession Makes Her Do Crazy Things — Like Scream at Kim Kardashian in Public
Just when you think you've watched one too many Real Housewives brawls (simmer down, Brandi and Kyle!) and fear your brain may turn to mush, know that there are bigger reality TV fans out there — like the Oscar winner. A Keeping Up With the Kardashians devotee, Lawrence actually screamed at Kim Kardashian when she randomly bumped into her.
Kim told the story recently at an E! press junket, saying, "I was in NYC and I ran into Jennifer Lawrence. We said, 'Hi' and walked into the elevator and as the doors were closing. She screamed across the lobby, 'I love your show!' We were laughing so hard."
In addition to saying that reality TV is more exciting than film, her bread and butter, here are some of the other quotes she's given to prove her reality obsession:
Who's counting? Sean Penn may have been married twice, but if he ties the knot with Charlize Theron — and that's where things are trending — he'll consider her his first real bride.
"You say I've been married twice before but I've been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today," the 54-year-old actor, who was hitched to Madonna (1985 to 1989) and Robin Wright (1996 to 2010), said in the March issue of U.K. Esquire. "So I wouldn't even consider it a third marriage, I'd consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again."
Things with Theron, 39, whom he started dating over a year ago after a long friendship, are serious. He tells the magazine that, sorry Madge and Robin, it's the first relationship he's ever been happy in.
He also speaks about Theron's son Jackson, 3, whom he is in the process of adopting, as if he's already his own offspring.
Justin Bieber Admits to 'Arrogant' Behavior in Emotional Video: 'I'm Not Who I Was Pretending to Be'
Are you looking at a whole new Justin Bieber?
For the last year (and change!) we've been covering every obnoxious move the guy has made, including arrests, spats with neighbors, disputes with other celebrities, mistreatment of airplane staffers, and the whole urination in a mop bucket incident. But now — as he approaches his 21st birthday on March 1 — we're seeing a kinder, gentler Biebs, and we like it.
On Wednesday night, the "Boyfriend" singer posted a very personal video message to fans following an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show . He said he was "nervous" going on the talker because he didn't want to come off as "arrogant," which he admitted was how he has been acting.
We're not talking sainthood or anything, but we are seeing baby steps in the right direction.
The two-time Academy Award winner, who announced in 2004 that he was done making movies, has been the target of a lingering death hoax this month that just won't fade. On Tuesday night, Dylan McDermott, who had a bit role in Hackman's 2003 film Runaway Jury , escalated the incorrect gossip by posting a #RIP message about the screen icon on Twitter.
The response to McDermott's post included things like, "Huh?!" and "What?!" About an hour later, the Stalker star deleted his post and followed up with this:
I guess Gene Hackman's death was a celebrity hoax. People have too much damn time on their hands...
McDermott isn't the only person who believed the Hackman hype. There are actually two places where the rumor stemmed from:
GossipCop even did a story on it, saying, Costner's speech made people "think Gene Hackman and Sean Connery are dead."
While getting your SportsCenter fix this weekend, you may notice a vaguely familiar face delivering news from the field. The ESPN show has added Will Reeve — son of Superman Christopher Reeve — as a special reporter.
The 22-year-old shares more than a resemblance with his late father. He's tall, dark, and handsome with a strong jawline and broad shoulders — just like his movie star pops. He's also comfortable in the spotlight and loves sports, calling his new gig his "dream job."
"My dad and I had a huge bond and shared a love of sports," Will told The Wrapabout his dad, who died in 2004 after being paralyzed in an equestrian incident almost a decade earlier. After noting the Superman heartthrob would be "proud," he quipped, "Then [he] would probably tell me to straighten my tie!"
Here are five other quick facts about the TV newcomer…
Will makes his SportsCenter debut this weekend covering the Phoenix Open.
