Now: At 35, actor/writer/director/lifelong student/terrible Oscar host James Franco seems to have come out of his shell. The "Spring Break" actor is game for playing colorful characters onscreen, penning several books, and occasionally writing columns where he shares his opinions on everything from a dude's perspective on the HBO show "Girls" to the reason he wants to "make love" to a certain Ryan Gosling film. He even weighed in on the underlying cause of his fellow thespian Shia LaBeouf's recent antics in no less than the New York Times. (LaBeouf's bizarre behavior was all in the name of art, per Franco.)
While a lot has changed over the past two decades, Franco still has one of the best smiles around … but now he gets to flash it in Tinseltown.
