We might still be in the dark when it comes to a release date -- or even just a release year -- for Grand Theft Auto V, but developer Rockstar Games finally decided to give anxious fans something to chew on today.

In a lengthy Q&A post, the company dropped two screenshots for GTA V. And yep, they're pretty, well, pretty.

Fans have been clamoring for more info since the company first revealed GTA V in a trailer last November, but as is typical with Rockstar, they've since remained hush-hush on the open-world game. The company again skipped out on E3, leaving an L.A.-sized hole in the upcoming buying plans for legions of gamers.

Rockstar acknowledged this in the Q&A and tried to explain the dearth of new info.

"We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don't do this because we 'don't care about our fans' 'don't respect our fans' 'hate GTA fans etc' — precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it.

"The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet."

Rockstar also confirmed that players will be able to fly planes in the new game — a gameplay feature omitted from GTA IV.

GTA V is headed back to the city of Los Santos, which gamers first explored in the smash hit Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
