Rick Santorum's favorite video game is entering another medium.

Temple Run, the iOS hit that has players endlessly fleeing a band of screaming, angry simians after defiling their temple, is being made into a comic book.

Ape Entertainment is overseeing the book, which will explore the backstory of the game's characters as well as the temple featured in the game. And, in news that's likely to make fans relax, the company has a history in converting single-note apps into more complex stories. Ape has already produced comics for app hits Cut the Rope and Pocket God.

The Temple Run comic will be available both digitally and in comic book stores.

"The Temple Run game left a lot to the imagination, with more questions than answers," said Keith Shepherd, CEO of Imangi, the game's developer. "We look forward to exploring the world of Temple Run and the adventures of Guy Dangerous in more detail with Ape Entertainment and the comic series."

Temple Run has gathered quite a following since its release last year. One-time presidential candidate Santorum was outed as a fan by his daughter, who bragged to Flip the Media about his 1 million point high score. Miami Heat star LeBron James is another admitted fan.

The game has been downloaded more than 90 million times in various app stores and is in the midst of a resurgence of sorts, after partnering with Disney to release Temple Run Brave, a tie-in to the recently released Pixar film.

Ironically, the game was something of a fluke. Imangi spent a year making its previous game, which failed to strike a chord with iGamers. When the team started on its next title, it vowed to make it easier to play and to spend less time creating it. That game, of course, was Temple Run.

"We … wanted to make something that was different every time and had this random nature to it so that we wouldn't have to create a million different levels and have a lot of content" Shepherd told USA Today.
