Life-size Monopoly coming to Chicago Auto Show

What's better than a game of Monopoly? A life-size game of Monopoly, of course. And the only thing better than a life-size game of Monopoly, obviously, is one where the players are carried from Mediterranean Ave. to Park Place in a brand-new hybrid.

As luck would have it, that's exactly what'll be going on at the nation's largest auto show, which kicks off in Chicago on February 10.

The exhibit will take up 30,000 square feet of Chicago's McCormick Center, according to AutoGuide, and the vehicles will include Toyota's Prius V and hybrids from its Camry and Highlander ranges.

The cars will negotiate S-curves, roundabouts, bridge crossings, and cross the game's Reading Railroad while their passengers will learn about Toyota's latest tech. Or sit and giggle at the novelty of being driven around a giant Monopoly board, which we suspect is rather more likely.

"By incorporating design elements from the game into the Toyota Hybrid Monopoly Ride Experience, we are able to present the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive experience in a fun and unexpected way," Toyota's Keith Dahl said in a press release brimming with the word "Toyota." "This exhibit really gives fans of the game an innovative way to interact with our hybrid models."

Those fans will also have an opportunity to interact with Mr. Monopoly himself: the game's mascot will be working the stand, posing for photos, and handing out wads of cash. Monopoly cash. Yeah, the auto industry might be on the mend, but even Toyota isn't quite at the level of dishing out greenbacks just yet.
