Disney infinity is about to get some new powers.

On Wednesday, Disney Interactive pulled back the cape on Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes. Due out this fall for Xbox One, PS4, Wii U and previous-generation systems, the upcoming game puts the Avengers front and center with new figures, playsets, and enhancements.

“Marvel Super Heroes fit perfectly into Disney Infinity, and with them we are pushing the platform’s limits of creativity and imagination,” John Blackburn, VP and General Manager of developer Avalanche Software, said in a statement. “We’ve enhanced and redesigned the gameplay to match the Marvel characters, while also making it easier than ever for players to express and share their own creativity.”

The company is bringing in the big guns to ensure the games legit. Longtime Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis, best known as the force behind the Ultimate Marvel universe, is handling the main playset story. The six core Avengers -- Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye -- make up the first batch of figures, with over a dozen more coming. Toys, power discs and Toy Box downloads from the original Disney Infinity are fully compatible with the new game.

The game will also boast a slew of tweaks intended to emphasize its super-powered cast. A revamped Toy Box mode will now include two structured games one tower defense, the other a dungeon crawler to help ease people into the somewhat intimidating toolset. Players will be able to build and decorate interior rooms and enlist builder characters to wander around and automatically build objects.

Disney is hoping that the heroic take on Infinity will keep the franchise's fortunes afloat. It's been a sizable hit, selling more than 3 million starter packs and generating over $500 million in global retail sales since launching last August.

Skylanders has yielded over $2 billion in revenue, however, and certainly isn't backing down. A new Skylanders game, Trap Team, will face off with Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes this fall.
